Checkpoint: Sequoia National Park
You've made it to Sequoia National Park, a park which is actually managed together by the National Park Service with
Kings Canyon National Park, simply referred to as Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
Similar to Kings Canyon, Sequoia is notable for its giant sequoia trees, and especially for the General Sherman tree, the largest tree on Earth. These trees grow in the Giant Forest, which contains
five of the ten tallest trees in the entire world.
This area was first home to the Monachee, or Western Mono, Native Americans. They largely lived in the Foothills of the park, but would travel over the mountain passes in the summer to trade with
tribes from the east. By the time European settlers got here, smallpox had already reached the region, and decimated Native American populations.
Today, the park is a tourist attraction, featuring several popular attractions, including Sherman Tree Trail, Tunnel Log, the Tokopah Falls, Crescent Meadow, Moro Rock, and the Giant Forest Museum
