Checkpoint: Key Largo

Welcome to Key Largo, riders! While not as fascinating as some of the other stops on this route, Key Largo is among the most beautiful.

The self-proclaimed "Dive Capital" of the world, Key Largo is the first of the Florida Keys, an archipelago located just off the southern coast of Florida starting a short distance south of Maimi and continuing southwest until reaching Key West.

Key Largo is also home to the world's largest artificial coral reef, the Spiegel Grove, which stretches for 510 feet, as well as the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, and the African Queen. In addition to that, the Everglades National Park is just a short trip away.

As can be assumed by claiming themselves as the "Dive Capital" of the world, Key Largo offers diving and snorkeling, but also glass-bottom boating, allowing people to see the phenomena that lives under the waters of the Florida Keys.

However, Key Largo is perhaps most notable for being a beautiful place to enjoy the beach (information courtesy of Visit Florida, image courtesy of Elmschrat / CC BY-SA).
