Checkpoint: Miami Beach
Welcome to the beautiful coastal resort city, Miami Beach! The neighborhood of South Beach, along with downtown
Miami and the Port of Miami make up the commercial center of southern Florida, and it has been a prominent beach resort since the early 20th century.
Miami Beach is also known for being a very pro-LGBTQ community. After economic and social decline, an influx of LGBTQ people moving to Miami Beach is part of what revitalized the city
of Miami Beach. The city has also passed several progressive civil rights laws, election of outspoken LGBTQ+ Mayor Matti Bower, and the introduction of Maimi Beach's Gay Pride Celebration
also helped to reinvigorate the LGBTQ community, as some had felt it was in decline in the early 2000's.
The last thing to note is some of the notable people from Maimi Beach, and the surrounding neighborhoods. While it does not have as many pop culture phenomenons, it has been the home of
Warner Brothers Studio founder Albert Warner, Detroit Tigers owner Walter Briggs Sr., as well as famed mobster Al Capone, sometimes known as "Scarface" (all information courtesy of Wikipedia.com,
