Checkpoint: Cincinnati Riverfront
Welcome to the Cincinnati Riverfront! The city of Cincinnati is located on the Ohio River, which makes the
Ohio and Kentucky border. As such, it makes perfect sense for an endpoint to a route which has people travelling over the entire state.
Unlike other cities in the east, modern-day Cincinnati developed with far fewer immigrants and influence, but had a significant number of Gernman-speaking immigrants. This population
was instrumental to the development of the city, as it was the reason behind many of the city's cultural institutions.
However, despite the large amount of economic growth the city experienced early-on, this soon came to a halt once steamboats became less popular in favor of railraods. This led to the
rise of cities such as St. Louis and Chicago.
The city has also been the home of several important people, as well as civil rights movements. Levi Coffin made Cincinnati the center of anti-slavery efforts in 1847, Harriet Beacher Stowe
lived here for a time, met slaves who had escaped to the north, and made their stories the basis of Uncle Tom's Cabin, and was the home of legendary funk bass player Bootsy Collins (all
