Route #1 (357.6m)

This route takes riders through the southern part of the state of Iowa. Unlike the other routes on this site, this route has a great deal of significance to Pedaling for Parkinson's. It is similar to the route in which Dr. Alberts and Cathy Fraizer were riding together on a tandem bicycle. By sheer coincidience, the two happened to be riding together one day, with Dr. Alberts in front. The two were pedaing very fast with very low resistance. At the end of the day, Cathy Fraizer had noticed that her tremmor seemed to be gone! This led to the research into how aerobic exercise can help to slow the progression of and alleviate symptoms of Parkinson's Disease, which continues today (image courtesy of Billwhittaker at English Wikipedia / CC BY-SA ).
